Ringarooma Primary School Multipurpose Hall, Tas
A Multipurpose Hall and Entry with a landscaped forecourt. The building is both a multipurpose school facility and a Community Hall for the township of Ringarooma, in a relatively isolated valley in north-east Tasmania.
This contemporary light-filled building not only provides a much needed flexible and expansive general purpose school and community space, but is a bold assertion of confidence in the future of a resilient rural community.
The Hall creates a boundary enclosure to the school grounds while sitting alongside the main street – the forecourt bridges the two, forming a common entry. This building negotiates a complex programme while appearing deceptively simple. A modern, deliberately classical and civic building, both sheltering its community and connecting it to the rural valley landscape and enclosing mountains beyond.
